Do submerged or sunken things (or even the thought of them) frighten you or make you uneasy? It's probably a phobia called vythisphobia... and it's quite common!
DEFINITION OF VYTHISPHOBIA:
vy-this-pho-bia [pronounced "vee-thees-pho-bee-ah"]
vythis (Greek, "submerge") + phobia (Greek, "fear")
/ noun: Fear of submerged or sunken objects. First used by Dr. M. Zannakis in 2013 to describe the fear and anxiety evoked by the sight or thought of submerged or sunken objects. Often, the larger the submerged object the greater the evoked emotion.
We created this website for two reasons. The first was to give a name to this unusual but common fear. The second was to allow you to have fun and face your fear by seeing the photos shared by other "vythisphobics" and to hear their stories. Enjoy!
